Teen Arts Pass (a program of Urban Gateways) is proud to present TAP’d In, a series of opportunities for teen members to have a deeper experience with an art form beyond seeing TAP-eligible shows. For 2019, these experiences are focused on the theatre arts as part of the 2019 Year of Chicago Theatre. The program is supported by the City of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events.

Please note: The arts organizations presenting these programs are not necessarily official TAP partners, though their specific TAP’d In program will be available to TAP members for free. Teens won’t want to miss these rare opportunities to go behind the scenes of Chicago theatre!

Teens: Interested in this program but not yet a TAP member? All you have to do is sign up (for free) right here!

Understanding Opera: A 3-Part Workshop Series with Chicago Opera Theater

November 12, 13, & 15, 4-5:30pm
Roosevelt High School – 3436 W Wilson Ave (Chicago)

Chicago Opera Theater and Wellness4Every1 are hosting three free workshops for teens that dive deeper into opera as an art form. They’ll also explore the story of the 1996 Mount Everest disaster,  which inspired the Chicago premiere opera EVEREST on stage this November, the book INTO THIN AIR by Jon Krakauer, and the 2015 movie EVEREST. This is a chance to dissect different aspects of this dynamic story about trust and courage, and to learn about different elements of opera and production. Come out for one workshop or all three; each unique session will provide a different look at this work and tragic true story.

BONUS: All teens attending a workshop will receive a free copy of the book INTO THIN AIR, a ticket to see EVEREST on stage at the Harris (205 E Randolph St, Chicago, IL 60601) on Saturday, November 16th at 7:30pm, and a Ventra pass for transportation to the opera. Every teen will receive a ticket voucher for each session they attend, accruing up to three vouchers (additional vouchers can be used for family/friends).
